Assignment #1 ½ - Make-up Assignment

Due date: Thursday, October 11th, 2003

Please have this short assignment ready to take up this Thursday so you'll know if you're on track in your thinking. Show ALL the steps, values and arithmetic involved including the original table values (with the name of the row and column you used). Answers that do not show all the steps cannot receive marks. Since this is a make-up assignment, your maximum mark is only 75%.

The star "Algol" periodically changes brightness and has a minimum brightness that lasts for about 10 hours (from beginning of the reduction in brightness, to the end where the brightness returns to its nominal brightness).

When is the next class night (Tuesday/Thursday from 7:30pm - 10:30pm) when we can view the next minimum of Algol, and at what time will the minimum occur?

Also, what is the status of the moon and the sun at this time? (Sunrise, Sunset, Moonrise, Moonset, and end of astronomical twilight)
