Please have this short assignment ready to take up this Thursday so you'll know if you're on track in your thinking. Show ALL the steps, values and arithmetic involved including the original table values (with the name of the row and column you used). Answers that do not show all the steps cannot receive marks.
Page 152 of the 2003 Observer's Handbook describes a total lunar eclipse. The most interesting time to watch the eclipse will be from contact U1 to U4. (See the table on the lower right of that page for times.)
More resources can be found here.
Provide the LOCAL CIVIL DATE AND TIME (wristwatch time that is) for each of the following events AT WINNIPEG, using the tables in the Observer's Handbook as your starting point. Your answers should be accurate to +/- 1 minute.
And for the same evening of the eclipse:
Note: the eclipse is dated Nov 9 UT but the U1 contact occurs the previous day UT, at 23:32:30 on Nov 8 UT.
Feel free to contact Chris if you have questions.
P.S. We will not be doing anything with the second part of your Time handout at the moment, the part relating to the daily difference between solar and civil time. That will be covered later if time permits
